About this Site
In 1998 I had geocities.....
then I moved from place to place on the web using forwarding names like hmatt.i.am and then in 2001 I purchased hmatt.com
Then in 2009, I decided to integrate the long falling apart website of hmatt.com into all the other stuff I have.
The link to the historic pages or ‘classic’ hmatt can be found on:
http://web.archive.org/web/*sa_/http://hmatt.com
I used to hand code everything, but now that I’ve graduated college I don’t have time for such activities anymore. Currently I am editing this all with Apple’s iWeb. There are certain features I can’t get it to work with thoug-- like CSS and such. I really want this website to look wiki like because my ideas jump around various places.
So enjoy hmatt.com and the subsidiary MatthewHirsch.com which is for my acting stuff.
Peace out!

Why am I named hmatt and hmattiam?
Well I was given the username of hmatt when I signed up with Juno. Once we got the real internet I went to Geocities and signed up as hmatt.
I created my first website as http://www.geocities.com/CollegePark/Hall/7801/ in December of 1997.
I knew very little about how HTML worked back then and I created a very cheesy page with no information about me on it. I had a few javascript effects.
I then tried using frames. Boy, are those hard! I read somewhere that people often hate frames because they make the viewing area for the website very small. So I gave up on that.
Later I began using a url-forwarding service which was named i.am at the time so my webpage was i.am/hmatt
Eventually i.am (www.easy.to) offered a reverse of the username (hmatt.i.am).
In June of 1999 Yahoo! bought geocities and I had to give up my username of hmatt. This was because yahoo already had a hmatt {who hadn't used his account since 1996 I might add). Thus I created my username hmattiam. Then I went on a kick. I changed everything to hmattiam so people could remember it easier. Plus it is not a common username.
I revamped my site in 1999 and made it all organized and such. I added a loading page and it was so cool! I had to add a Yahoo! banner at the top of all my pages however. Otherwise I'd have those little Java boxes in the right hand corner. The script they use isn't very compatible with IE so a lot of errors come up.
Well, on July 10, 2000 I got an e-mail from i.am saying how they were bought out by V3 Redirect Services (figures..). Then I had a little ad pop up each time you loaded my site. The only way to get rid of it is to pay them $18 a year! Yikes! I was like forget that!
I went to Florida to work at DisneyWorld and stopped adding to my site.
When I got back I realized how much of a hassle it was to say hmatt-dot-I-dot-A-M so I bought a yahoo! webforward URL- hmatt.com (hmatt-dot-com). Much better!
Then on September 5, 2001 the i.am forwarding service decided to charge it's customers. So I began to sit down and overhaul my site.. checking broken codes.. missing links, missing pages and also adding new pages. By February of 2001 I bought the forwarding rights to hmatt.com.
I decided that I would organize things a little more on my site and take out all of my javascript and java dependant stuff.
Well at any rate I hope the current site goes over well. I'm trying to make all of my page not seem like that many (I have about 50!) Let me know what you like or what you miss!
On Febuary 3, 2005 I made the big plunge and bought two years of webhosting with Godaddy.com. During the few days of domain transferring from the yahoo domains, hmatt was unreachable. I've just now put up the last version of the website online. I still have to update things because many things have changed in the two years since I did a true 'revamp' of my website. Now I have videos, pictures on flickr, and an assortment of other changes. I've also utilized the tag feature on livejournal to list the changes to my website -- http://hmatt.livejournal.com/tag/hmatt.com.
