CD writer- Iomega ZipCd
This was my CD writer
After years of wonderful use.. I gave it to Goodwill. I bought a mac mini with a DVD/CD burner.
(Who really burns cds anymore?)
I bought it August 2000 at Staples for $250
It is made by Iomega
I remember when CD writers first came out. They were incredibly expensive and hard to use. When my grandmother got an internal writer I started working the Adaptec software that she had and was soon able to make my own Cds. Before I went to Florida I realized that if I had too many pictures taken on my digital camera that I would run out of room or might accidentally erase them! I then bought this. It can move from my laptop to my grandfather's Compaq computer via a USB cord. I have used it a lot! It is a nice addition to have. I can save up to 650 megabytes or 74 minutes of sound per disc. Using the software I just recently made a backup of all of my pictures/songs to listen on my cd player. How neat is that! A multiuse disc!
Problems: If you try to copy a song from the CD rom to the ZipdCD you usually encounter several skips or various other problems. It is usually best to create a wav file first and then give it to the Cd writer. If that is too much a hassle for you it is probably best to get an internal writer. The USB port is limited to how much information it can transfer (which is why there are skips or ruined cds sometimes). Another thing that drive me nuts is that there is a new cd writer that uses the firewire/I-link technology. Oh well. I'll wait until I can get myself a DVD writer (for my home videos).
Oh and when I got back home apparently the inside of the cd writer shifted forward so I had to take off the little flap that covers where the cd goes back in. Oh well.
