Costume Purchases

Sunday, May 23rd, 2010

Last week I saw this sign down the street for a vintage sale on 5/22. I thought it was a church or something so I checked it out yesterday morning.

Man oh man. What a jackpot! I just wish I’d gotten there right at the beginning. People were buying racks and racks of stuff. It was pretty ridiculous.

The things I was specifically looking for I couldn’t find in my size. Most 20s/30s suit jackets weren’t long enough in the arms for me, and I didn’t see any futuristic looking stuff.

I bought $98.50 worth of stuff that includes:

Some sort of egyptian looking robe used by 20th Century fox (dated 9/52!)
A Wizard cloak (but I have to sew the shoulder back on, you’ll see John wearing this soon)
Coat jacket with tails!
two 50s looking short sleeved shirts (one black, the other green)
50s US army uniform shirt
two polyester shirts
70s shirt with bright designs on it!
tattered shirt muslin, good for a prisoner in a dungeon or something
2 long white one piece robes.. good for peasants
yellow vest
brown onesie outfit for like a deer or something (already has a deer tail)
white onesie for a donkey or rabit (a donkey tail attached)
2 doctors jackets
renaissance vest

HATS (which were like $2-3 a piece)

Three wizard hats
two elf hats (one maroon, other grey)
two arabian hats
one arabian hat with a neck covering
three cowboy hats
two bowler types of hats
two head coverings where the face is the only thing that shows through- one orange, other black

So fun!

I recognized LOTS of swing dancers there. They were all buying vintage clothing of course. I also realized that I am a VERY big fan of vintage girls. There were SO MANY PRETTY GIRLS all dressed in vintage attire.. It was incredible. Oh future wife, I know you are out there wearing something awesome.

So I now have LOTS of fun stuff to use for the children’s show, and now I just have to figure out where I’m going to store everything!! My closet is PACKED!

FINALLY!!

Saturday, May 1st, 2010

I installed a bar in my hallway. Every day I’d get closer and closer. Then sometime last week I did one.. I thought it was a fluke until I could do two in a row.. This morning it happened!!! Keep at it! You can do anything if you put your mind to it!

Archiving Tapes

Thursday, October 29th, 2009

I’ve been in the process of moving for the past few weeks, and I just can’t get over how much junk I have!

So today I took a bunch of tapes I had stuff on, and I started to archive them onto a hard drive.

Wow. Talk about flashback.. there was a tape from back in college when I first did a Ramshackle Films type of event where we made up the video on the spot.. all about a dead body found in the forest. -April 2005). Plus, the last place I rented in Seattle- including a guest appearance the girlfriend of the time…

My four year LA anniversary has come and passed and I’m barely a step closer to my dream it seems. Although I’ve come a long way in other ways, I still have a long fun road ahead of me.

Hmm, still half an hour left on my lunch break.. now it’s time to revisit my goals and timeline.

future stuff

I like the following idea of themed foods for each week:

http://unclutterer.com/2009/10/05/uncluttered-mealtime/#comments

I’ll have to remember that when I have a family.

Also, Thomas (a onetoone customer of mine) has taken a photo of his kid every month in the same chair. He did so for 19 years. Wow. That is pretty awesome. Also, he and his wife make an anniversary video where they interview each other about what happened the past year and have a shot of them together.. and close up on each other. He then adds it to their wedding video. so neat. = )

I’m going to start compiling lessons and ideas of things I want to do with my future family and kids..

Another idea is to have an old fashioned photo of my child and a drawing or painting or something.

I’ll have to make up a webpage for this or something.

Crosswords

Wednesday, September 16th, 2009

The new update for the iPhone app, CROSSWORDS allows me to download my own .PUZ files!! Finally!

I’ve been searching for places to get them, but haven’t had much success. I really want to like crossword puzzles- they help your brain at recalling info (which I need to work on). However, I often get frustrated because they have lots of clues to things I simply don’t know. I want to have topics I could actually know about.. like 80s cartoons or TV shows, or something.

So I’m on a quest. I’m trying to find a Harry potter site, or even a place where people create their own crosswords and trade them..

Maybe someday I’ll get a crossword maker and design my own. Until then, I’m searching.

days off

Monday, August 31st, 2009

Yesterday and today are my days off, and boy have I needed them.

I spent most of Sunday trying to figure out how to get my various images and notes in one place. I like to write down ideas. The problem is that everything resides in various programs and places and I forget what is where. Clutter.

Also I rated several of my songs. I have 8600 and most of them were downloaded from SXSW torrents. The process is ongoing though, when I shuffle I’ll get great new songs & terrible crunchy stuff that hurts to listen to.

After I figured out what automator workflow worked and what process I needed to accomplish; I looked for an iPhone app that reads pdfs.

I’ve been scanning everything I have so now about all my papers are gone. I can use Spotlight on my mac, but I didn’t know of a way to do so on my iPhone..

then I found Aji Annotate. Wow. Everything I needed.. now PDFs are my new favorite thing.

Today I’ve been up for a couple hours and getting things cleaned up a bit. Pretty soon I’m going to go shopping for some little things and then come back and tape something (finally). So yeah, I was just thinking that I haven’t been updating my blog as much as I’d like.

Million iPhones

Monday, June 22nd, 2009

Wow. Apple said they sold 1,000,000 of the new iPhone! Pretty incredible. I know quite a few people who are getting a phone for the first time too.

Later this afternoon I have to go to the dentist for a filling! Curses! It has been ages since that last happened. I always forget to floss.

I’ve been trying to come up with something to help me out in that department.. when I discovered:

Cupcake frosting flavored floss
http://www.amazon.com/Cupcake-Flavored-Waxed-Dental-Floss/dp/B001U6KW3I/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=hpc&qid=1245689116&sr=8-1

I’ll have to buy a lot of it though.. but it may keep me interested. I wonder if someone sells some fruit flavored!

Anyway, this morning will all be about doing laundry and coming up with youtube videos to tape with MY AWAYS AVAILABLE VIDEO CAMERA! Still so awesome.
