Car Repair

Friday, August 15th, 2008

I have the day off today, so I thought I’d spend some time getting my oil changed{$30}. Well, an hour layer I find that there was a nail in one of my tires {$25}, the oil gasket is leaking (which I knew about){$95} and I need to get my brakes replaced next month (I knew that too). So now it is two hours later and I’ll have to wait another hour and a half.

Plus, in another month or so my car insurance will be due again. So long money in the bank.

Thus too goes my plan for an early afternoon drive around neighborhoods I’d like to see. It will be a late afternoon jaunt.

I’d like to do something special tomorrow too- maybe the zoo or something.

Hmm.

Character

Fire Escape

Wednesday, August 13th, 2008

Last night I dreamt I was onstage. I wasn’t on a normal stage, I was way up high.. on a catwalk.. on the edge of a building. It was a Harry Potter type of building / high school gymnasium. We were onstage doing some sort of improv thing because I remember thinking about what character I was going to use.. then telling myself not to think too far ahead.

I was second and when I began to speak the crowd began to disperse. I made some sort of joke about the situation.. and then we realized that someone had tripped off an alarm.

For whatever reason the fire escape turned into this catwalk type of structure and the only way to get down was to sideways-scoot along a pole to the other side. The fire escape closest to where I was had been blocked by decaying wood, so I had a tough time getting down. Another option to the scoot across was to do some sort of acrobatic motion to get around the blockage.

Then somehow I ended up in the future and I was safe on the ground. I must have fast-forwarded or something because then I became curious how I got down. I rewound to the top again and I discovered that I must have walked behind the catwalk. There was a dirt path that ended to a place where I could use the other fire escape.

After I woke up I realized how nonsensical the entire thing had been. There were some interesting moments though. The gymnasium probably has to do with my hs reunion coming up. The improv because I volunteered for a show.

*sigh* I’ll have to add some more adventure to my life. My dreams are including peril moments to remain active.

MB Small Group & tires

Tuesday, August 5th, 2008

We had a small group meeting tonight. Everyone shared their stories of how Improv helps them share the gifts God has given them..

It was reassuring to know that we all have the same types of anxieties about life and going for our dreams.

In old town I saw a small table with Obama stickers and such. I went and picked up a bumper sticker and this guy bumbled by. Among the profanity he said something about how he would vote for McCain because he fought in a war with his dad or something.

We were all kind of silent, and I made a comment about how great it is that people can be passionate about something.

I wish I’d stopped him from babbling. I agree McCain is a hero. Anyone of who is in the armed forces is such a treasure to our country. That being said, I don’t feel McCain’s policies will help our country evolve to a better place.

Recently there has been some hoopla about Obama and his energy plan. He has many great ideas, the best ideas revolving around providing tax credits so American car companies can start making efficient hybrids to carry us forward. He also urges everyone to make sure that their tires are inflated to save oil.

The GOP made a big joke about it. Anyone who has EVER read anything by AAA or any environmental organization would know that to be true. The simple action to ‘make sure your tires are properly inflated’ would certainly help out our world.

I’m going to go buy a tire gauge tomorrow. Then I need to know how to check that stuff. I can buy a pump or something too and offer it to all of my friends. That is such a simple, great way to help the environment.

*sigh* too bad Republicans are downplaying the importance of doing something positive.
