Weekend

Saturday, June 20th, 2009

Wow. What a weekend.. and it isn’t even over yet.

For my birthday, I skipped traveling Disneyland by myself and earned overtime pay by working the iPhone launch day. It was like going to a fair! Everyone was so excited to get the new device, and as usual, actually playing with the 3gs seemed so magical.

We’ve learned a lot from the past years of product launches. I think it went INCREDIBLY smooth. People outside didn’t have to wait that long, and the transactions seemed a lot easier.

Today I bought myself the new phone too. I justified the purchase even though I don’t qualify for the lowest incentive price. I had to pay $500 for my 32GB phone! I’ll bet I can get at LEAST $200 on ebay for the 16GB II had.. and the new Video capabilities? = AMAZING!!! I can’t even begin to explain how excited I am about all this!

Today though I started to get a headache around hour 10.. but now after a nap in my car, I’m home and ready to read a couple internet articles before I go to sleep.

Pretty awesome.

The past

Friday, May 29th, 2009

For the next few days I will be scanning all my old school papers and notes and such. It will be great to finally rid the garage of all those old papers. I can’t imagine trying doing this all with a flatbed scanner.

I keep running into certain things that I don’t know if I should archive or not: notes and memorabilia from old girlfriends.

A part of me wants to preserve those memories because they were precious at the time. However, those chapters of my life are LONG over.. what is the point of keeping all that stuff? Plus, how would I feel if (in the future) my wife were keeping things from an old boyfriend.

Hmm.. it is such a hard decision to make. I have a box of stuff from different eras of my life. I don’t want to delete those memories; remember what happens in Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind!

Yet I also don’t want to live in the past.. not when there is so much hope in the future.

I’m running into the same problem with receipts too. For some reason it is REALLY hard for me to delete them. I don’t crave the actual paper, just the info on it.. just in case I need to research something I guess.

I wish I could pay someone to scan all this junk for me– it is taking a long time!

Procrastination of a dream

Friday, May 8th, 2009

I really enjoy How I Met Your Mother because I identify a lot of the same struggles as Ted. I myself have been procrastinating since I’ve been in California. I keep waiting until I have everything ‘perfect’- the perfect headshot, the perfect website, perfect training, all my acting notes in order, experience..

How am I to get real experience if I never do anything though? I’ve been planning to do my own webseries for a while, but I procrastinate writing the scripts. This show isn’t just for me, it allows my friends to get involved in something too, to showcase our collective talent and creativity.

I’ve been procrastinating more than just the writing- I’ve been waiting to buy a new video camera, framework for the green screen, organizing my to do list..

I don’t have Activator as one of my strengths, but I know I can cultivate good habits. I only have two days a week off, and today is the day I will get a haircut (I’ve been putting that off for a LONG time- it is so scraggly!). Then I will get out of the house and start writing in a notebook because if I try to do it on a computer I get distracted or try to find the perfect program to help me out.. which furthers the procrastination. Or I start to eat and then watch tv shows online..

Okay. Timeboxing WILL work today. I’m going to spend 15 minutes planning out my day, then begin. This will be a productive day.. oh yes.

giving up

The longer I put off starting my own firm the longer it can remain a dream and not something I screwed up at.

Its like I’m giving up before I even started.

Bento for iPhone

Tuesday, May 5th, 2009

Woo-hoo! I can use Bento again! I think Bento will now replace HanDbase as my favorite app..

-Bento will have pictures associated with it.
-Bento can search across all fields

It may even replace Things as a to do list! Maybe I won’t require three different apps for my various lists! This will take some practice today.

Mantra – Let It Go

Monday, May 4th, 2009

I will let go of all the times I make mistakes.
——-

Beating myself up over things or feeling bad doesn’t help anything or anyone.

~Choices are moments in time that I can’t change.

~Relationships can usually be repaired with a peace offering.

Or I can do something ultra-positive to someone else, paying it forward.

Righting a wrong with a right.

Yin and yang.

saturday of tasks & watching improv

Saturday, May 2nd, 2009

I finally decided to buy http://www.biblescopeapp.com/ . I already spent $30 on BibleXpress, but it didn’t have NIV or the cool split screen view to look at two translations at once. I’ve been brooding whether to buy it or not, but I think it will be very interesting. Plus I can even download a spanish version and practice my spanish! The buttons are in different places, but I do like a lot of the little things (like having a little list of all the books on one side when I’m selecting which verse to go through- I always had trouble trying to flip to the right page fast enough)

So far today I’ve updated http://hmatt.com/blog/projects/10-find-way-to-accomplish-goals/ and explored Fetch Mirroring from my idisk to MobileStudio.

I think my favorite app on my iPhone is HanDbase. Especially now that they sell a $15 add on for the mac that allows me to sync back and forth. Very useful.

My second favorite is a tie between Zenbe Lists or Things. I deleted zenbe at one time, but they’ve really added all sorts of nice features with their website like embedding lists elsewhere and such. Things is still my main to do app though because I can move tasks from one place to the next and can see all of them at once.

Tonight I’m going to watch a couple ComedySportz shows. We meet again on Monday night, and we are supposed to watch several shows.

Comedy Sportz

Tuesday, April 28th, 2009

Last night I had the first of four improv classes at ComedySportz. We did a lot of exercises that required teamwork and analogies of improv. One such activity was taking turns drawing a face. I don’t remember ever doing that before, but it was a lot of fun!

At the very end of the evening we were encouraged to compliment each other and accept those compliments. It has always been a pet peeve of mine when people downplay compliments.. and I totally did that! I want to give and receive genuine compliments!!

Related to this is confidence. I don’t know what has happened, but I think I lack confidence! I show all the symptoms- hesitating to be in the limelight, waffling on my decisions, second guessing myself.. ENOUGH OF THAT! I hereby declare that I am confident!

Part of the reason I bet I hesitate to declare such a thing is because I’m hyper aware of people with big egos.. but you know what the difference is between those self-centered people and people who are awesome? People who are awesome have confidence to share. I want to be that shining light for people who are down and out! I want to support my friends and family with positivity!!

Confidence has some type of bad connotation and I am now reclaiming it. Confidence means positivity!
